The monument is from the socialist era, built after the Russian-Turkish war in 1828-1829. It was constructed in honor of the Soviet Army, as a symbol of a friendship between the two countries. The monument was built on the Turna hill. The spotlights illuminated the massive 11,000 monument in the past, and the ships, which were coming to the port of Varna could see the monument from far away and recognize their destination. The monument lies alone on the hill, surrounded by 20,000 planted trees, which represent the number of the soldiers, which lost their lives in the war.

There are many stories about weird noises and shadows, which appear during the night. Also many people report about seeing a man in black, walking alone in the forest in the night and many believe that this is the ghost of a soldier, who never found his peace. More over, because the place is abandoned, there were many criminal cases, associated with it. Many people were shot or mysteriously disappeared from this place, and were never found again.

The Russian-Soviet Monument in Varna, Bulgaria, is a cultural feature of the communist influence on Bulgaria, but today the place is abandoned and claimed to be haunted as well, but it remains one of the biggest symbols of the sea capital of Bulgaria - Varna.
